Requires frequent reinstall
I use the app nearly daily and it is the only app on my iPad I have to install and delete regularly because the app starts crashing repeatedly.

terrible performance and constant needless updates
subject says it all. constant tinkering to layout that almost never makes the user experience better, just more confusing. also more recently clicking on news notifications to open the app typically leads to the app just loading/“spinning” and not actually loading the story you're trying to view. i hate this app.

Sudoku board no longer fits on my phone screen
It happened today and I keep hoping it will go away after I close and open the game, but so far the problem persists. It slows the flow of my game because I cannot see all of the number options and the entire board at once. I have to scroll up and down now each time I select a number. I usually play all three difficulty levels every day. Today I stopped after the Easy level because it's so frustrating.

The news feed does not update reliably
I've been a Times subscriber for years, but the app is driving me crazy. It does not update the news when I open it, nor when I try to manually refresh (using the swipe down gesture). To force it to refresh, I usually have to click on an old article, then go back to the home page and again manually refresh. So frustrating, especially because the subscription cost keeps going up while the app keeps getting glitchier and glitchier.

App is bloated - use web
Reading on the web is better. The app is huge. Doesn't offer an easy download and read offline option ( like the Washington Post does ) Many of the articles are just web views. ( And reading on the web gives you the option of “Reader view”) 5 starts on the content.

Access to support is incredibly difficult
I'm having difficulty getting my husband access to my bonus subscription, this happens every single year that I renew. I have tried everything and still can't figure this out. It's been going on for weeks.

Opaque, non intuitive navigation
Just hard to navigate. Kinda feels like they don't want you to move easily around in the App. More like they want you to take the three or five steps to accomplish what could be done in two.

FINALLY! *sometimes Dark mode!
Latest: app no longer works at all. Crashes upon opening each time. I reinstalled repeatedly which didn't fix it, I give up. Update: the app very inconsistently offers dark mode option. Sometimes it opens with dark available.. other times it doesn't work. It has a mind of its own. Never seen an app just randomly choose when it wants to offer a dark mode option. Sometimes if I open multiple times I can get it to go dark. Comon guys who is developing this.. ridiculous mess. —- After a long, long, looooooong wait, NYT has at last gotten dark mode to work on my phone as of yesterday. I cant believe it took this long but glad the day has finally come. Old review: the latest version notes say it supports dark mode now but I don't see the option?? It's still showing light only. —- If any app needs dark mode it's news apps.. especially NYT which seems to love making everything blast white everywhere which is awful for eyes, reading, and battery life. It's also a phone storage hog.
