Excellent recipes with some room for improvement
I've been looking to up my cooking game and this app is extremely dependable. Recipes that come with a video are especially useful. Id recommend a month of this app to anyone before buying books, it's a very accessible way to get into cooking. Every meal I've made has been excellent, because the recipes are well curated/written, and the app has enough activity to see reviews and comments before committing to a recipe. That said there are some minor issues. 1. Servers I've had server issues adding items to grocery lists. I also just got a server error adding a note to a recipe that I spent quite some time writing, so that was a bit frustrating. 2. Measurements The measurements are fine, but could be improved with a more dynamic system. It would be nice to have the option to choose between cups, imperial, metric. Measurements could also be referenced in the instructions more, so you don't have to go back to read the ingredients with food all over your hands. I prep most of my ingredients but not all. With a smarter system you could also input the number of servings you want, so the recipe updates quantities dynamically. I've seen this in the MealLime app for example. 3. Videos Another small thing, but more videos would be great, or images with the stages of cooking. Being able to see the consistency of a sauce or the level browning on a cake is indispensable when you've spent time and money on a new recipe as an inexperienced cook.

The search functionality leaves a lot to be desired.

Maddening oversight - links will not open in the app. Can't share recipe links via text due to this because they only open in wen browser.

Everything’s a Sauce
Yes, I can search for new recipes and save them. Saving is one thing but organizing is another. Only a fraction of my saved recipes are auto-populated into the NYTs-created folders. The others are sitting in “Saved” by date saved. When I try to move them, the ONLY option is “9 Italian sauces….” All the recipes have that single folder option…. Cakes, vegetables; you get the picture. While I'm venting…Why isn't there a Note to Self option on the recipes. I'm forever making adjustments and don't consider printing a good option. My understanding is that the Private tab in Comments is not for that purpose. Maybe there's something I'm missing. But anyway that's my experience with this app.

Great recipes. Terrible search engine. Now adding terrible bells and whistles.
Great recipes. Terrible search engine. Now adding terrible new “features “ with no way to opt out of them.

Limited functionality
iPad and iPhone versions have limited functionality- (1) you can't “like” reader comments (aka “notes” or “community notes”), (2) you can't see how many readers judged a comment helpful, (3) nor can you reply to reader comments and questions. The browser based version lets you do all three.

I don't understand how you can have a paid subscription app which is so hard to navigate and search

I wish it was possible to create my own labels for the recipes such as vegan dinner or vegetable sides. It is frustrating to scroll thru all my nyt recipes to find what i'm looking for. NYT labels don't match my brain.
